Bamber Bridge 1 Kendal Town 1

Injury-hit Bamber Bridge are still without a win in the NPL First Division North, after they were held at home to Kendal Town.

All the goals came in the first half with Kendal’s Jordan Connerton opening the scoring in the ninth minute.

Three minutes before the interval, Brig drew themselves level, midfielder Joe Booth heading in when unmarked at the back post.

The hosts dominated long periods of the second half but a combination of missed chances and last ditch defending ensured the points were shared at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

Brig return to action this Saturday as they travel to Mossley in the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

It was the visitors who had first sight of goal and they should have opened the scoring, Connerton shooting over from two yards.

Connerton made amends for his early miss in the ninth minute, the Kendal forward pounced on a stray ball at the back, before lifting his shot over the onrushing Lee Dovey from inside the penalty area.

Both sides struggled to keep possession on a greasy surface and a lot of the game was played in the middle.

The hosts’ first real chance of the game came in the 27th minute, Vasey glancing his header over from an Ally Waddecar cross.

Towards the end of the half, a slick passing move saw Curtis Thompson loop a cross in from the byline and popping up at the back post was Booth who headed in off the crossbar.

Brig made a fast start after the break, Waddecar’s claims for a penalty waved way after being shoved in the back by Kendal skipper Rob Henry.

Jamie Milligan was instrumental in Brig’s attacking play and Kendal were indebted to keeper Whiteside after he pulled off a tremendous fingertip save diving to his right to deny the former Blackpool midfielder.

The hosts continued to push forward and the Kendal defence was under immense pressure. With the last chance of the game, substitute Regan Linney sent his header well wide from another Milligan set-piece.
