Morecambe's players have a double incentive against Colchester United

Derek Adams has called on his Morecambe players to maintain their run of results at home when Colchester United visit tomorrow.

The 1-1 draw against Walsall in midweek means the Shrimps are now nine unbeaten in all competitions at the Mazuma Stadium.

That home form is in stark contrast to Colchester’s fortunes on the road as they have only won one of 11 away league games this season.

They are also without a win in their last six, though Adams is not reading too much into that.

Carlos Mendes-Gomes heads home Morecambe's equaliser against Walsall in midweek

He said: “They got a good draw in their last home match against Cambridge, who are top of the table.

“The other night, we would have liked to have got the three points because of the opportunities we had at the end of the game but we’ve done really well at home.

“Our home form is really good and we’re looking to try and continue that.

“We’ve picked up a lot of points and home form is vital – as well as picking up points away from home – if you want to succeed.”

Adams is still waiting to hear what the consequence of his midweek red card might mean in terms of any touchline ban.

Instead, his focus is on completing a league double over Colchester following victory five weeks ago.

“It was really good,” he said of the Shrimps’ performance on the day.

“We really enjoyed it with the way we played, the way we scored goals and with it being the first time we had played with supporters back in the stadium.

“Colchester are a club where you always know they have got some really good players coming through their system. They like to get them into their first team and we have to be wary of them and the danger they possess.”
