Only Exeter City (49), Cambridge United (47), Oldham Athletic (46) and Port Vale (41) have found the net more often than Adams’ players.

Adams has previously outlined his view that he can do without a main man in attack if the goals are shared around – and 14 different scorers this season would seem to have made that point for him.

He said: “If you look over the last 10 games, we’ve got 15 points.

“We’re more than delighted with the position that we’re in.

“With the performances we’ve had, if the chances were taken we’d be further up the table.

“If you look at the statistics, we probably should be the second highest scorers in the league.

“In saying that, we are one of the highest scorers in the division so that tells you we are doing something right.

“We could be up with the highest goalscorers had we taken our chances and that’s a positive thing – though we have got to be more clinical.”
