Morecambe manager hopes for further success in 2021

Derek Adams says his Morecambe players can be proud of what they have achieved in 2020.

The Shrimps have been labelled as the surprise package in League Two this year with four wins in a row seeing them presently fifth in the table, just three points off an automatic promotion spot.

It has been a remarkable turnaround for the Shrimps who began 2020 at the bottom of the table.

However, 13 wins from the 33 league games played so far this year and an upcoming FA Cup third round tie at Chelsea – their first at that stage in almost 20 years – has seen Adams turn around the club’s fortunes dramatically.

Morecambe have had plenty to celebrate during the year

Adams said: “It’s fantastic to be in the position we are in. It’s more than we could have ever asked for really.

“We are on a good run going into the New Year. The form we are in and the ability we have shown to win matches has been excellent.

“The team is in good form, the lads understand the game and they understand the positions they are playing in, and we have a good squad now as well.

“We go into the New Year with a real team spirit from the board all the way down, which is very good for any club.

“We are enjoying things at the moment but we need to keep things going and keep our standards high.”

Adams’ success had seen him linked with the managerial vacancies at Ross County and Bradford City in recent weeks – and the Scot says that speculation is a good sign.

He said: “You want to have people speculating on your manager and players because if they are doing that then you are doing well.

“There has been some speculation at the moment but that is all it is.”
