Two goals in either half saw the Premier League side take the spoils in the Shrimps’ first FA Cup third round tie for 18 years with Adams saying his side will take a lot from the game.

He said: “Frank Lampard showed full respect for the FA Cup by naming a really strong team which, to be honest, I didn’t expect.

“They were a side full of internationals and had been under a bit of pressure of late and we knew it was going to be a tough afternoon, especially as we had been self-isolating for 10 days recently which wasn’t ideal.

“But we started well and kept our shape and kept our discipline and they hadn’t really troubled us too much before they scored, and there was nothing in the game until then because they weren’t creating too much and we were pretty happy.

“We knew they would have a lot of possession but they didn’t really play through us and the lads did really well.

“We then looked like we would keep it to 1-0 into half-time but they scored just before the break and added another at the start of the second half, and it was pretty much game over then.

“We did all we could then to try and cause them a few problems and we kept going right to the end to try and get something.

“We showed a lot of resilience and a good understanding of the game and I was pleased for the players.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had named a strong team full of internationals for the match at Stamford Bridge.

Two of those, summer signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, found the net with Lampard hoping it will help them settle into life in England.

He said: “I’m pleased for Timo to score because strikers want to score goals, he’s had a lot of near misses in that time.

“He’d been getting into positions to score goals but they hadn’t been going in for him.

“So I was pleased to play him today and for him to get confidence and get a goal. He gets his goal and that’s important.

“With him and Kai coming into the Premier League, some of the greatest Premier League players have needed time to settle to the league. And it’s a nice little step for both of them.”
