Morecambe manager anticipates a difficult afternoon against Oldham Athletic

Morecambe ran out winners when they met Oldham Athletic at the Mazuma Stadium in the Carabao Cup last month

The Shrimps travel to Boundary Park, sitting second in League Two after three wins from their opening four matches.

In contrast, the Latics are third-bottom of the table and picked up their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw at Colchester United last weekend.

Their results have been better in cup competitions with back-to-back EFL Trophy wins against Wolves and Doncaster Rovers.

The two sides have already met this season with the Shrimps running out  winners in last month’s Carabao Cup tie but Adams believes Oldham are a different side from that encounter. “They got a really positive  result at Colchester when they were 2-0 down and then drew,” he said.

“We’ve got to be careful we don’t read too much into the results at this stage of the season.

“We’ve played Oldham already, we’ve watched them, and I think they are a decent side.

“They have changed formation since we played them. They have gone to three at the back with four in midfield and three up front.

“They are  attack-minded, they go forward, and they leave space.

“That’s maybe why they have lost the goals they have but they are a team that can cause problems.”

Former Fleetwood Town striker Conor McAleny is  Oldham’s main threat with five goals in three games and six in seven for the season.

Adams said: “He’s a dangerous player who can play off the front or cut in off the left-hand side.

“He’s in a good vein of form but we’ve got players like Adam Phillips who is also in good form.”
