Morecambe went down to a 3-1 defeat to League One Fleetwood, wo remain unbeaten in pre-season under Joey Barton.
The visitors were put on the back foot by Jim Bentley’s side in the opening exchanges.
Morecambe exploited some slack defending on a corner as Andy Fleming found himself with time and space in the box, though his effort failed to test Town’s new number one Alex Cairns.
Town went on the attack and Jack Sowerby stung Shrimps goalkeeperBarry Roche’s palms with a first time effort after bright work from Wes Burns on the right wing.
Morecambe fought back and were left to rue the cat-like reflexes of Town keeper Cairns.
Nathan Sheron, was caught out deep in his own half with the Shrimps taking advantage as Zak Mills’ cross from the right caught them napping. It was Aaron Wildig who rose above the pack to nod the ball down towards the bottom right corner but Cairns scrambled across to tip the ball away. Fleetwood opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Conor McAleny slid the ball with the aid of a deflection.
Burns got his name on the scoresheet, when he directed Bobby Grant’s corner home three minutes before the break.
Morecambe hit-back after the interval when Fleming pounced on the edge of the area and he became the first player this pre-season to beat Town keeper Cairns, his deflected effort making it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.
Fleetwood made the game safe when the Morecambe fans appeared to miss a foul on Alex Kenyon in the build up but Grant’s strike was the best of the bunch, his first time effort giving Roche no chance to make it 3-1 to the visitors.
