Morecambe will play in round three for the first time in 18 years following a 4-2, extra-time victory at the Mazuma Stadium.

Having trailed at half-time, the Shrimps took the lead in the second half before being pegged back by their visitors to set up an extra half-hour.

“It was always going to be difficult,” Adams said afterwards.

“Solihull have had a very good start to the season, they are a good outfit, and we knew that before the start of the game.

“They started very well, put us under a lot of pressure, got a goal and they were probably unfortunate not to get another goal after that.”

Adams’ response to trailing was to make two changes at half-time, most notably replacing keeper Jake Turner.

The Newcastle United loanee, who was beaten twice from distance at Salford City in midweek, gifted Solihull the opener after failing to hold Jordan Cranston’s shot.

He was taken off, along with Jordan Slew, as the Shrimps brought on Mark Halstead and Stephen Hendrie as well as reverting to three at the back.

“I had it in mind 30 minutes into the game,” Adams said.

“I was going to do it then but wanted to make the changes in the dressing room.

“We did that, we took two players off and it allowed us to get back in the game.

“That allowed us to get on the front foot, push Solihull back and eventually dominate the game.

“We should have won the game in normal time, we had so many good opportunities but we never took them.

“We got done on the counter from our own corner but in extra time we had the resilience to go forward again and get a further two goals..”
