The Shrimps made it back-to-back away draws with a 1-1 stalemate after Brad Lyons’ late goal had cancelled out Eoin Doyle’s opener.

It was enough to lift Morecambe into sixth place in League Two going into Saturday’s home match against Scunthorpe United.

Speaking post-match, Adams said: “I think it was a very good performance from us tonight, to come to Bolton Wanderers and have 18 attempts on goal to their nine.

“They are a very good side, they have some talented players, and we were behind in the game.

“Doyle scores a very good goal from their point of view. We got done on the counter-attack a bit, we lost the ball high up the pitch and we had to claw ourselves back into the game.”

They did so during the second half, receiving a helping hand when Marcus Maddison was sent off for a challenge on Aaron Wildig.

Then, inside the final 10 minutes, the Shrimps got back on level terms as they again displayed their knack of scoring late goals.

On this occasion, Lyons - barely a minute after coming off the bench - headed home from John O’Sullivan’s corner.

Adams said: “We played a lot of good football, hit the bar, had some really good openings but we didn’t find the net.

“We make four substitutions. Brad comes on, John O’Sullivan puts a great ball in from the corner kick and he scores with his first touch.

“We still have good opportunities to go on and win the game but to come here and take a point is very good.

“We have got that ability to bounce back, we have shown that a number of times this season.

“The character, the strength and the mentality in the squad is very good, we have got a lot of good performances here tonight. I think we have shown, with the five substitutions we made in the game, that we have got a very good squad.”
