Morecambe boss looks forward to a free midweek

The Shrimps have played every Saturday and midweek since the season started on September 5.

However, a blank midweek enables them to recharge the batteries ahead of Saturday’s trip to Oldham Athletic.

There should also be another free midweek before the trip to Crawley Town on October 17 but there is every chance of a game being brought forward.

The match in question is the EFL Trophy group stage game against Manchester United’s youngsters, which had been provisionally set for November 10.

“I think it’s very good –we’ve had nine games now in a short space of time,” Adams said of the break.

“We’ve got two weeks now where it doesn’t look like we’re going to have any (midweek) games unless we play Man United on October 13 because there’s no other time for us to play it.”

This blank midweek at least allows the Morecambe camp to reflect on their impressive start.

The win over Port Vale made it three victories from four, their best start since 2016/17 which saw Jim Bentley’s side win four of their first five matches in League Two.

“It’s important – nine points are on the table and it’s league points you want,” Adams said.

“We’ve prepared ourselves this week for this game today.”
