Longridge Town manager hopes to hear some answers on how their season will take shape

With the season now suspended until early December after a delayed start, it leaves clubs facing an enormous headache to try and get all of their matches played.

Even if lockdown is lifted in a fortnight’s time, it still leaves Town and other clubs with a huge fixture backlog if they are to complete the season as planned in mid-May.

Ashcroft’s players would have 35 Premier Division games in that time, a situation facing plenty of other clubs.

For their part, Garstang still have 31 matches remaining in their First Division North campaign.

There are, however, other clubs across the two divisions who have only played two of their scheduled league matches so far.

“I don’t think it’s possible, especially when you think of things like the weather that we’ll have coming up,” Ashcroft said when contemplating being able to finish the season as scheduled.

“I don’t know how they are going to do it, they must have a plan but no-one’s told me what it is!

“We won’t know for a while when we’re allowed to come back, so it’s all very frustrating. Nobody looks like they have any answers.”

The NWCFL had previously issued a statement saying they will work with the FA on plans to resume the season once they were in a position to do so.

If clubs are to have a full fixture programme as planned, one solution could be to extend the season and get all the games played before having a short break and then beginning the 2021/22 campaign.

Ashcroft said: “They might do that and I think we need to hear something from the FA on this.

“It’s just a frustrating time for everyone. We’d gone so well last season in the league and the (FA) Vase but as long as we’re safe and healthy, that’s the most important thing.”
