The visitors took an early lead on six minutes when great great hold up play from Owen Watkinson allowed him to release Jack Anderton who beat his marker for pace before sliding the ball past the keeper.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 but this Watkinson was the scorer rather than the provider. Tom Ince’s dummy saw the Town striker run through on goal, making no mistake.

Stalybridge pulled a goal back through Callum Harris in the 72 nd minute and then equalised with three minutes remaining.

However, just a minute later Watkinson hit the winner, slamming home from the edge of the area.

Lancaster City were dumped out of the FA Cup after suffering a surprise 2-1 loss away at Skelmersdale United.

After dominating the opening 35 minutes, the Dolly Blues were rocked just before half-time when Michael Grogan headed past Sam Ashton form a corner.

City equalised shortly after the resumption thanks Charlie Bailey’s fine strike.

Unfortunately the visitors could not build on that and they fell behind once again when substitute Gari Ellis ran clear in the 66th minute and slotted past Ashton.
