The former Manchester United man was expected to be the number one at Deepdale this season when he made his loan move from West Brom a permanent switch, signing a one-year deal last July.

But the Denmark international, who turned 33 today (Thursday), has not played since the 6-0 defeat at Newcastle in the EFL Cup back in October as Chris Maxwell took his chance between the sticks.

His last league appearance was the 5-0 defeat at Brentford in September meaning Lindegaard has conceded 11 goals in his last two games for the club.

“As it looks now, he must leave Preston,” his agent Michael Stensgaard told Danish newspaper BT.

“We will explore what options there are for after the summer.”

His departure at the end of his contract would leave Simon Grayson in the market for another senior goalkeeper to provide competition to Maxwell.

Youngster Matt Hudson, 18, is the other ‘keeper in the first-team squad.
