Late win is a relief for PNE boss Grayson

The visitors were the better side and finally made their pressure pay off in the 80th minute when Nakhi Wells ran through to shoot them in front.

North End were level within three minutes though, Paul Gallagher’s shot taking a big deflection off Town skipper Joel Lynch.

Then in the second minute of stoppage-time, Alan Browne met a cross from Calum Woods to head the winner.

Browne had only made it to the ground 70 minutes before kick-off, his car having had a puncture on the motorway.

Grayson said: “The win took a lot off effort against a good team.

“I thought Huddersfield played very well, a lot of credit goes to them.

“We knew they would pass it well, play quickly, rotate round and have a lot of possession.

“It was one of those games where we have won it and probably if I’m truthful, we didn’t deserve to win it because of the numner of chances Huddersfield had and how they dominated it at times.

“We have played a lot better this season and not won so we will take it.

“When we look back in the morning, the scoreline says we won 2-1.

“We have a group who are determined to do well, keep going to the very end - these players give every last bit and don’t leave anything on the pitch.

“To come from behind shows a lot of spirit and character.”

Reflecting on the winning goal, Grayson said: “It was good play from Calum Woods and Browney made his way into the box very late, like he was for the team meeting at 1.30pm - he got a puncture on the motorway -so he will be celebrating but also after the weekend reprimanded with a fine!”

Victory kept North End in 14th place in the Championship table.
