John Lomas' Chad Stags Blog: Thrilling end to the season in prospect
With less than a fortnight to go in February and daffodils starting to flower, you can already sense the end of the season hurtling towards us '“ and what a thrilling end it promises to be.
Despite last weekend’s 3-0 defeat away at a Plymouth side likely to be plying their trade in League One next season, the Stags remain in the top seven play-off spots with just 14 games to go.
With everyone yet to play everyone else around them and games in hand counting for little if not won, Adam Murray’s men have given themselves a fantastic chance of being in the frame.
The Stags are level on points with fifth, but there are only four points between them and 11th place – it’s tight and thrilling.
Bizarrely Mansfield have still not beaten a side in the top half of the table all season.
But they have enjoyed great success against sides in the bottom half – and that should stand them in good stead over the next three games which are all against teams in the bottom five.
Despite installing the experienced John Still as manager, things are looking grim for this Saturday’s visitors Dagenham.
The Daggers sit bottom of the whole League, three points behind York but having played a game more.
They have lost four and drawn one of their last five and arrive up here fighting for their lives which makes them still very dangerous.
But if the Stags could gain wins on Saturday, at Newport away and then Yeovil at home – all very possible – what a finish we could have in prospect.
