Jansen says all to play for with three games to go

Chorley boss Matt Jansen says the season is not over as the Magpies enter the final three games of the campaign eight points adrift of a play-off spot.

Despite fifth-placed Boston United having an eight point cushion, Jansen wants his men to win all three games at Brackley Town on Saturday, at league leaders Solihull Moors, and finally at home to Tamworth, pick up nine points and see where it takes them.

He said: “I want to finish the season strong and we are doing that.

“We have three games left, I want to win them all, I want to win every game.

“You can never say the season is over, it is a long shot for the play-offs, it is unlikely but I want to win all three.”

Jansen was pleased with his sides last two performances.

They undeservedly lost 2-1 at Tamworth last week but beat Gainsborough Trinity 3-1 at a sodden Victory Park on Saturday.

And Jansen wants his side to keep up that same effort and desire.

He said: “It was a bit tricky in the second half with the rain coming down but the lads stuck in and we got what we deserved.

“We were better than them, we showed that all through the game.

“The conditions did not help us but I didn’t think we were ever going to lose.

“After having a great run of form we had a bit of a dip.

“Yes we had injuries and suspensions which did not help and I said at Tamworth I need big characters.

“I want to finish the season well and they gave everything in that game at Tamworth and we deserved more.

“I said equally I want the same effort, endeavour and desire against Gainsborough and they showed that and we got what we deserved.”

Defender Courtney Meppen-Walter was man-of-the-match on Saturday but got caught in possession and Nathan Jarman punished him by scoring Trinity’s only goal of the game.

Jansen said: “Courtney was at fault for their goal but I want him to keep getting on the ball because he causes problems.

“He was threading passes through and he has got a wand of a left foot.

“He got caught in possession for their goal but that is not going to deter me from him getting on the ball.

“For every goal that he may make a mistake from he can create 7 or 8 chances so I’m not going to criticise Courtney for getting robbed I want him to continue to get on the ball.”
