Hartlepool 0 Morecambe 2
Two goals from Jack Redshaw gave Morecambe three points at bottom-of-the-table Hartlepool.
The striker produced two quality finishes in either half to give Jim Bentley’s side the perfect end to 2014.
Redshaw’s first on 22 minutes was a superb individual goal.
The striker took the ball on the left-hand side of the Hartlepool area and cut inside before curling a fine right-footed shot past Scott Flinders and into the bottom corner of the Hartlepool goal.
His second came nine minutes from time when he latched on to a long clearance to evade the challenge of two Hartlepool defenders and drill an unstoppable low shot to beat Flinders to his right.
After a bright start, Ryan Williams almost added a second for the Shrimps five minutes later when he latched on to the loose ball 20 yards from goal and drilled a rare left-foot effort inches wide of Flinders’s left-hand post.
Hartlepool had enjoyed plenty of possession but only threatened in the final stages of the half. Brad Walker tested Scott Davies with a free-kick from the edge of the area that was smartly tipped over the bar. From the resulting corner, Hartlepool’s Dan Jones nipped in front of his marker but saw his looping header clip the top of the crossbar.
The second half saw Hartlepool again enjoy long periods of possession but failed to trouble the Morecambe keeper Davies.
Michael Duckworth headed a Johnathan Franks cross wide at the far post and Joe Ironside fired a shot well over.
