It’s Coasters v Hatters in the FA Cup

The Coasters will bid to eradicate defensive errors that saw them twice lose the lead at home to Tamworth on Saturday.

It cost them two points and meant they dropped a place to third in the league standings.

That was a cause of frustration to manager Dave Challinor.

He said: “Last season we were in a situation in which we got to pride ourselves on our defensive organisation.

“But that has not happened so far this season, mainly because we have had to chop and change in defence because of injuries.”

There could be a further opportunity on Tuesday night at Kellamergh Park for former England under-16 international Alex Whittle, who came on for his AFC Fylde debut in the closing stages of the Tamworth draw.

Formerly with the Liverpool football academy, he also had spell playing in Scotland with Dunfermline Athletic - he operates at left wing-back.

Challinor said: “Alex will give us something going forward, but our priority is to get our defence right.”

Reflecting on the FA Cup draw at home to Challinor’s old club Stockport County on September 26, the AFC Fylde boss said: “We always knew that at this stage of the draw we would get a team at our level.

“It could have been easier, but it is what it is, and it’s good that we have got a home tie.”

AFC Fylde and Stockport met as recently as August 31 when County beat the Coasters 3-2 at Kellamergh Park.

One player definitely out of that FA Cup clash is Stockport midfielder Glenn Rule, who has been banned for 10 matches after appearing to bite an opponent, Stalybridge Celtic’s Aaron Chalmers, on August 29.
