Home comforts for Brig with key double header

Brig suffered only their second home league defeat of the season at the hands of Witton Albion earlier this month.

But after that 4-1 loss Brig have dispatched New Mills 3-0, and beat Harrogate Railway Athletic thanks to a late Jamie Milligan penalty on Saturday.

And Crowe says the shock defeat was maybe a blessing in disguise.

He said: “Maybe the Witton game was the kick up the backside we needed.

“Since then we have played two of the bottom sides but we still had to beat them.

“They are scrapping for their lives but we bounced back and beat them.

“I thought we should have been out of sight in the first half against Harrogate. Sometimes missing so many chances can come back to haunt you and they scored with their first chance of the second half.

“It was against the run of play, but we dug deep, got the three points and we are hoping to make it three in a row tonight.”

Brig have won seven of their last nine games and are 14th in the First Division North table but they have the chance to move up to 10th if they can pick up six points this week.

After Crowe’s men host 16th-placed Prescot tonight high-flying sixth-placed Mossley travel to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Saturday.

And Crowe hopes his men can continue their fine home form and climb the table.

He said: “Prescot have picked up some good results this season.

“They are a team together that is fighting for every point.

“It will be a tough game.

“We have a tough two home games this week.

“But we are doing well at home this season, we have only lost twice at home in the league this season and we are confident.

“It is 50/50 if the game will be on because of the weather but hopefully it will be on.”
