Preston North End manager Simon Grayson heaped praise on his players after the 4-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.
Grayson felt such an emphatic result had been on the cards for some time following a much-improved run of form in recent weeks.
This was North End’s fifth league win on the bounce, all with a clean sheet, and came in front of 2,117 travelling PNE supporters.
Paul Huntington gave them the lead with a little more than a minute played, Daniel Johnson doubling the advantage with a fine finish from outside the box in the 32nd minute.
Joe Garner scored his 15th goal of the season with a close-range finish seven minutes into the second half before substitute Jermaine Beckford wrapped-up the scoring in the 82nd minute.
Grayson said: “It was a fantastic performance against a team who are up there.
“All round, that sort of performance has been coming for a few weeks now.
“We have played well in previous games but missed chances.
“I’ve always said someone along the way would end up having a couple of goals or more put past them.
“We played from the shape of the team well and had the bonus of scoring an early goal which settled everyone down against a team who had got a new manager in charge.
“Then we built from that and it was great to see the goals in.
“That is five wins in the league on the bounce and five clean sheets.”
