Morecambe suffered a heavy derby day defeat at the Crown Ground.
The Shrimps produced a shocking performance to be outclassed by James Beattie’s side who dominated the game from start to finish.
The Shrimps suffered the worst possible start when they went two goals down in the first 10 minutes.
The first goal came after just four minutes when they were undone by an excellent Lee Molyneux goal. The ball broke in midfield and while the Shrimps’ back four looked for offside Molyneux broke down the left hand side and he produced a superb drive to blast a shot past Barry Roche.
Six minutes later the home side doubled their advantage from the penalty spot.
Will Hatfield was bundled over in the box by a clumsy tackle and the referee pointed to the spot and Kal Naismith sent Roche the wrong way from the resultant penalty.
Stanley went close to making it three a few moments later when James Gray tried his luck from 30 yards and forced a smart save from Roche.
The Shrimps produced little until the start of the second half when Jack Redshaw was denied by an excellent save from Marcus Bettinelli.
That proved to be a minor irritation for Stanley as they went on to add three further goals. Dean Winnard made it 3-0 with a close range header on 57 minutes and defensive partner Tom Aldred added to the lead with a free header from a Molyneux corner.
Morecambe pulled one back through Padraig Amond six minutes from time when he diverted home a Ryan Williams’ corner from close range.
The joy was short lived however as Accrington scored a fifth goal in injury time when Molyneux sped past Mark Hughes to fire a stinging shot past Roche.
