Dean has to fight for his place says boss Jansen

Forward Dean has recovered sooner than expected from an ankle injury, but has had to settle for a place on the bench due to the impressive form of strike duo Darren Stephenson and Jordan Connerton.

Chorley have won their last three games in a row, with Connerton on target in each game, and now Jansen has thrown down the gauntlet to Dean.

He said: “Deano has got to fight his way back into the team because Jordan and Daz have been doing fantastic up top. Jordan’s movement is fantastic. He gets into great areas, he is strong and quick, he is a clever footballer. He can’t be a target man, he can’t work on his own but put the ball down the sides of defenders and he will score.”

The Magpies bagged a spot in the LFA Challenge Trophy final at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron stadium against either Lancaster City or Padiham on March 14 after beating Colne 3-0 in the semi-final at the County Ground last Wednesday.

And after beating Worcester 2-0 at Victory Park on Saturday Jansen is eager to see his 10th-placed National League North side make it four in a row against Gloucester City at Victory Park tonight.

He said: “It is good to carry on this run, we are playing well and hopefully that will continue tonight. The next five games are winnable and we will kick on.”

Jack Dorney rejoined the club from Trafford on Friday and Jack Lynch committed his future until the end of the 2016/17 season. Lynch has a niggle but the injured Paul Jarvis should be fit enough to be in contention tonight.

Jansen said: “I never wanted to lose Jack but he wanted to play regularly. Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener, he has come back and he did fantastically well on Saturday. Lynch has signed a new contract which we are delighted about because he is a key player going forward.”
