Crowe looking to shake it up with a Brig signing

Bamber Bridge boss Neil Crowe is hoping to add some more firepower to his goal-shy side by snapping up a striker from a Football League club.

Crowe’s men wasted several opportunities to kill the game against Goole last Saturday and progress to the FA Cup second qualifying round.

But after letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2, Brig had to settle for a replay and will entertain Goole at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium tonight.

Now Crowe is hoping to solve Brig’s fortunes in front of goal by bringing in someone new this weekend.

He said: “It has been the same story in front of goal all season. We are creating chances and not putting them away.

“So we are actively trying to bring someone in.

“We may have someone lined up by next weekend but I can’t really say.

“We are looking at someone from a professional club.

“We are actively looking to shake the squad up a bit and bring a striker in.”

Crowe’s men recorded their first league win of the season against Trafford last Tuesday night and Crowe is hoping to have a new signing by their next league game against New Mills on Saturday.

But Crowe’s first concern is progressing in the cup and although it is not the North End that PNE fan Crowe would love to face if Brig beat Goole, they will secure a big home tie against either NPL First Division North rivals Glossop North End or NPL Premier Division outfit Skelmersdale United on September 26.

And he hopes the chance of a tasty clash is a wake-up call to his men.

He said: “Seeing who we could play in the next round might give the lads the kick up the backside they need.

“We should have won on Saturday at Goole. We didn’t take our chances, again. It was a case of poor finishing and we conceded two poor goals. It was really disappointing. They know how I feel so I don’t think they will need firing up. They will want to put it right.”
