Come-from-behind win is just what Grayson ordered

Tom Field rose unopposed to head home the opener after 12 minutes but the Lilywhites soon hit back with Aiden McGeady’s first of the day.

The Irishman then turned provider for Callum Robinson, who got North End’s crucial second.

McGeady’s second and a first PNE goal for Daryl Horgan all but sealed the points before Maxime Colin’s late consolation meant the final scoreline read 4-2.

“The first half was end-to-end,” said Grayson, whose side ended a run of six straight defeats against the Bees.

“When I looked up at the clock for the first time we were 35 or 40 minutes in and it was nearly half-time.

“We said at half-time we needed to get five yards further up the park to make sure we didn’t give them the space to play in midfield.

“We were braver off the ball which ultimately led us to be more positive when we got it.

“It’s great to break the hoodoo and great to show character to come from a goal down to put four past a good team.”

The day was all about McGeady, the Everton loanee scoring his second and third goals for the club as he put in his best performance for the Lilywhites.

“That’s been the criticism of Geads all through his career, he’s probably not supplied enough end product with the talent that he’s got,” said Grayson.

“But when you see him do stuff like that you can just sit back and enjoy it.

“He’s a special player and it’s nice for him to get the rewards for some good performances this season.”

There was also a first North End goal for Daryl Horgan, who impressed on his return to the starting line-up.

“He’s an industrious player and he’s got good quality,” said Grayson.

“He’s settled in very quickly which is testament to the other players.

“He scored plenty of goals for Dundalk last year and when he got there he took it early and didn’t give the 
keeper the opportunity to get himself set.

“It was a great finish and gave us a cushion to see the game out.”
