Chorley sign Fleetwood's out of contract defender Jordan

It is believed the 34-year-old former Manchester City and Burnley player turned down an offer from one of Town’s League One rivals to join Matt Jansen’s National League North side.

The centre-half impressed in Fleetwood’s final few games of the campaign as Steven Pressley’s side just beat the drop to League Two.

But he was not offered a new contract and now the defender has opted to join the Magpies when his contract expires this summer.

Jansen said: “I’m delighted.

“He is an experienced professional.

“I spoke to (former Fleetwood boss and current Scunthorpe United manager) Graham Alexander and he highly recommended him.

“A lot of other clubs were interested and we are glad he has chosen to join us.”

Former Blackburn Rovers forward Jansen has come up against Jordan twice in top flight football.

Jansen came off the bench to play 45 minutes in Blackburn’s 1-1 Premier League draw at City in November 2004.

Danny Mills was sent off for fouling Paul Dickov in the box and the striker dusted himself down to cancel out Antoine Sibierski’s 45th minute opener.

Jansen also played 11 minutes against Jordan for Bolton Wanderers in January 2006.

The striker made a late cameo appearance in the Wanderers’ 2-0 win over Jordan’s City.

And Jansen who has since swapped his boots for the dug out at Victory Park, says he is looking forward to being on the same side as Jordan.

He said: “I’ve played against him in the past and now I’m looking forward to working with him.

“It is set to be a tough league this year and so it is good to get Stephen on board as our sixth summer signing.

“His experience will really help us.”
