Chorley looking to extend unbeaten run when they travel to Hereford

The Magpies have earned plenty of adulation due to their exploits in the FA Cup which saw them reach the second round proper and a a famous 3-2 win over 2013 winners Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Their next match in the competition against Peterborough United has certainly caught the imagination, but the bread and butter of the club will always be the league.

And there remained a nagging concern in the back of boss Jamie Vermiglio’s mind that his men had yet to open their win account in the National League North after their opening six games.

Fortunately, that monkey is now off their back after Elliot Newby’s deflected effort handed them a 1-0 win over AFC Telford United at New Bucks Head.

They will be hoping to make it two wins on the spin when they travel to Edgar Street this weekend to take on Hereford.

“It was monumental win,” said Vermiglio. “A massive win for us against a very good side.

“It took us a while to grow into the game but the lads did.

“They were quite organised and solid and for all of Telford’s pressure, it was more sustained through set plays and corners.

“Maybe they created two or three clear cut opportunities and they will have been disappointed playing at home to have been beaten.

“They will be thinking they should have had something out of the game. After the big win last week against Wigan, the big question mark was can we bounce back in the league and get a bit of a run going.

“We have managed to do that away from home and a clean sheet.”

Hereford area phoenix club for Hereford United, who spent several seasons in the Football League after winning promotion in the 1970s.

They later dropped out of the league but returned in 2006 after winning promotion but were subsequently wound-up with debts of more than a million pounds in 2014.

Hereford won promotion to the National League North in 2018 and so far this season have won two and drawn one of their opening five league games.

As far as Vermiglio is concerned, his team are now on a three-match unbeaten run and he wants his men to extend that.

“It’s another difficult game for us,” Vermiglio said.

“They are a good side who move the ball well.

“Their results have been a little bit up and down but we will prepare for them.

“We are three games unbeaten and that’s what we have got to tell ourselves. We have to take confidence from that and kick on. Two or three more wins and we will be in a much stronger position.”
