The Magpies take on York City in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup – which will be their fourth match in 11 days.

Operating with a smaller squad than usual this season, due to the Covid-19 crisis, Vermiglio admits that he is counting on the youth at the club to help the senior squad out.

“Some teams have the ability to move things around a little,” Vermiglio told chorleyfc.com. “I am not saying we haven’t got that, because we have got some young lads there and I have got to put a bit of faith, a bit of trust in them and give them opportunities.

“We certainly have not got the strength in depth that we would like to have, or that we had last season or the season before. We know that is the situation that we have got currently, and the club are supporting me, but at the same time we have got cut our cloth accordingly.

“We are carrying a smaller squad and we going to rely on some of the younger players coming through, and hopefully they will have an impact.”

This evening’s encounter will see the Magpies be afforded the opportunity of exacting revenge on the Minstermen, who were victorious last Tuesday when the two sides met in the league at Bootham Crescent.

Chorley’s only win this season arrived in the FA Cup when they defeated Gateshead in the second round of qualifying a week last Saturday.

This weekend, the Magpies suffered their second successive league defeat when they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Gloucester City.

“I was really disappointed with the performance against Gloucester,” said Vermiglio. “How we started the game.

“We lost a lot of battles all over the park – our application from the first whistle was really poor.”

Also in the cup this evening, AFC Fylde travel to Farsley Celtic, while Southport host South Shields.

Bamber Bridge will look to bounce back quickly after suffering their first defeat of the season at the weekend.

Jamie Milligan’s men were beaten 3-1 by NPL Premier Division title favourites South Shields at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

They have the chance to put that result behind them when they travel to face Radcliffe Borough this evening.
