Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio calls proposals to relegate his club unjust and unfair

The Magpies stand to be the only club across the entire non-league pyramid to be demoted if National League plans to end this season are passed.

The league board have asked clubs to vote on proposals to conclude the season via an unweighted points-per-game ratio with only the bottom club in the National League - which is Chorley - relegated.

With all levels below the National League structure opting to null and void their season, it would mean the Magpies would be the only club in the country to be relegated in non-league.

Chorley are currently bottom of the National League - 17 points from safety. A decision on their fate is expected this week.

Vermiglio told chorleyfc.com: "I’m sure our fans will have seen the proposals put forward by the National League ahead of tomorrow’s vote on how to finalise the 2019/20 season.

"One of the proposals would consign Chorley to relegation on the points-per-game method, and as a result we’d be the only club in the entirety of the non-league pyramid to suffer this fate – to us this feels unjust, inconsistent and unfair.

"This weekend I have been encouraged and overwhelmed by the calls and messages from fellow managers in the National League and the EFL offering their support. They share the view that there is a sense of injustice surrounding the proposal that our club could be the only one to be relegated from across all of non-league.

"I am very proud to be the manager of a football club I’ve been associated with for almost two decades, and one that, for the last 10 years, has been going from strength to strength on and off the field. Myself, my staff and the board are clear that we want the opportunity to play in the National League again in 2020/21 and we are working hard behind the scenes to enable this to happen.

"What we are asking for is fairness across non-league and hope the National League can see the relegation element of their proposal lacks integrity. The views of the vast majority of the football family should count for something, and we are hopeful they will."
