PNE this week...

This week in 1971, Preston won the Third Division title with a 3-0 win over Rotherham at Deepdale, Alan Spavin (2) and Clive Clark on target. The result took them above Fulham, who they had beaten 1-0 three days earlier at Craven Cottage.

North End beat Reading 2-0 at Deepdale on May 7, 1983, Alan Gowling and Steve Elliott on the scoresheet. They won their last three games that season with Gowling netting in all three.

On May 6, 2000, Preston rounded off their Second Division title-winning season with a 2-0 win at Bristol City. The title was already in the bag and 3,000 PNE fans made the trip to Ashton Gate to see Brett Angell and Michael Appleton score.
