The England Under-21s international played 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly with Northampton this week, his first action since picking up a hamstring injury against Middlesbrough in October.

Hause, 20 is now keen to get back into the first-team set-up and repay the club after putting pen to paper on an improved three-and-a-half year deal.

“I am over the moon to have signed a new deal,” says Hause.“I have been at the club for two years now and have had some good times here.

“When I got offered the new contract I was injured and that shows that the club believe in me.”

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes is “feeling his way back” into training with the first team squad.

Barnes has been out with cruciate and medial knee ligament damage, suffered in the final game of last season.

But the 26-year-old could well make a return to action before the end of this campaign, as the Clarets look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Barnes has eight goals in 58 appearances for Burnley since a £400,000 January move from Brighton in 2014 – including five in the top flight last term.

Former QPR boss Neil Warnock is leading the race to become the new Rotherham United boss. Warnock has been in the running for the Millers vacancy, and looks set take over at The New York Stadium on a short deal to preserve Rotherham’s Championship status. He would beat Gary Megson, Mark Yates and Paulo Di Canio to the job, candidates who have all been tipped by the bookmakers. The former QPR boss looks set to be the successor to Neil Redfearn who was sacked on Monday afternoon after just four months in charge.

Redfearn became the shortest serving manager in the history of the club .
