Jansen’s side claimed a big point at rivals Stockport County on Saturday, holding the Hatters to a goal-less draw in front of a crowd of 4,073.

As the season enters the final stretch, Chorley sit fourth in National League North, four points clear of County, in sixth.

Following Wednesday night’s re-arranged Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy semi-final with Ashton Athletic at the County Ground in Leyland, the Magpies have 10 league games to play, starting at home to AFC Telford United on Saturday.

Jansen, buoyed by the spirit and togetherness shown at Stockport, said: “We have 10 cup finals left, and we’re in a great spot.

“We’re competing very well, and we are a proper team.

“If we stick together like we have been, we’ll have no problems. A point for us was better than for Stockport, they’re behind us by four points and knew they were going to throw everything at us.

“We weathered that and I’m proud of the lads – I’ve been proud of them all through the season. They stick together and we’ve got a fantastic bunch, a fantastic team spirit, and 10 more to go, we’ll see where we are.”

Chorley and third place Kidderminster Harriers have the best defensive records in the division, only shipping 29 goals so far this term, and Jansen hailed his players’ strong chin: “Coming away from home, you draw your away games and win your home games, and we’ve come here against a difficult side, the fans get behind them...they’re a good, strong side and we showed the spirit and togetherness, and how resolute we are. We showed why we are where we are in the league, and put our necks on the line.

“We fought for each other and managed the game fantastically well, and it’s a huge point for us.”
