MEET THE BOSS
Former Spurs full-back Chris Hughton is the man who has guided Brighton to the top of the Championship.
He was appointed on New Year’s Eve last year, succeeding Sami Hyypia. Under Hughton’s charge, the Seagulls reached safety last season. This is the 56-year-old’s fourth job in management, having been in charge at Newcastle, Birmingham and Norwich.
During his playing days, Hughton played 300 times for Spurs and was in their side which twice won the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982, and lifted the UEFA Cup.
MEET THE REFEREE:
The man in the middle at the Amex Stadium is Andy Davies from Hampshire. This is only the second PNE game he has refereed, the other being the 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient in November 2012. Davies’ 10 games this term have seen 33 yellows and three reds.
62 YEARS AGO:
On October 24, 1953, North End beat Sunderland 6-2 at Deepdale – following up a 4-1 win at Manchester City.
Charlie Wayman bagged a hat-trick, with Angus Morrison, Jim Baxter and Dennis Hatsell on target.
On October 20, 1986, PNE won 3-1 away to Stockport County. Oshor Williams scored twice, with Steve Taylor getting the other against his former club in only his second game for North End.
On October 21, 1995, PNE fans were treated to a rarity of two players scoring hat-tricks in the same game. Preston hit Mansfield Town for six at Deepdale, lethal strike pair Andy Saville and Steve Wilkinson netting trebles.
The pair scored 39 league goals between them that season as North End were promoted.
