Lancashire-based Katie Brannigan of Cardinal Newman College and Everton Ladies, is heading to the USA this summer to take up a prestigious football scholarship.
Branningan will be joining Lafayette College located in Easton, Pennsylvania.
She will arrive in August to study and play for the “Leopards” soccer team.
The youngster will have the opportunity to combine her university studies, alongside playing high-level football for the next four years.
The scholarship has been gained through the assistance of PASS4Soccer Scholarships.
Branningan’s achievement in winning such a high value scholarship and placement is in recognition of both their academic achievements to date and her athletic ability, as well as an impressive performance in the PASS4Soccer US Coach Showcase in December, 2013.
She said: “From being a young age I have always dreamt of spending time in America.
“America has the unique balance of having great university and college programmes as well as competitive, high standard soccer leagues.
“Studying in America I will be getting the best of both worlds as well as opening doors for my future.
“The thing that I am most looking forward to is meeting new people and making friends which I will hopefully have for the rest of my life.
“I have chosen Lafayette as I believe that the four years I will spend there will be a life changing experience.
“Lafayette is renowned both academically and athletically, allowing me to push myself both mentally and physically.
“As I will be moving to another country, I wanted a college that was small enough to help me integrate into American life and make great friends, but also had the academic qualities to help me develop and achieve my ambitions and goals as well as opening doors for my future career.”
Places in the PASS4Soccer Network Program are now available for students seeking to enter a US university soccer programme in August 2016 and 2017.
PASS4Soccer will be holding trials in Birmingham and London in August, and in London in September, with further trials in London, Birmingham and Newcastle the following month.
