The sight of Lancaster City being crowned champions has made Bamber Bridge boss Neil Reynolds even more determined to succeed.

Brig’s derby rivals won promotion to the NPL Premier Division after winning the First Division North courtesy of a 5-2 win over Glossop North End on the final day of the season.

Reynolds was quick to pass on his congratulations to Dolly Blues manager Phil Brown, but admits he was envious of their success.

But after winning the prestigious League Cup this season – less than six months after taking over the managerial reins at Irongate – Reynolds sees no reason why his men cannot follow City’s lead and win the league next year.

“I texted Phil Brown and congratulated him on Lancaster winning the league,” said Reynolds.

“Browny congratulated me on winning the League Cup and he said that it was great that two clubs so close together ended up with two big trophies at the end of the season.

“It’s fantastic to win the League Cup, but I want to go and win the league next season.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds revealed that there will be not much time for him to put his feet up over the coming weeks as he looks to put his preparations in place for next season.

The Brig boss is eager to get much of his transfer business done early, while he needs to tie up the futures of a number of his current squad.

Young stars Josh Heaton and Regan Linney have already signed new deals, while this season’s contracted players Alistair Waddecar and Matt Lawlor are expected to put pen to paper on new deals.

Veteran midfielder Jamie Milligan has also agreed to joing the coaching staff as well as continue in a playing capacity. “I think most non-league managers will say that we work harder in these next few weeks than at any other time,” Reynolds said.

The players are due to report back for pre-season training on June 30.
