West Bromwich Albion striker Craig Beattie has returned from his loan spell at Preston North End to receive treatment for the hamstring injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the season.
The 24-year-old joined earlier this month but suffered the injury just 38 minutes into his debut at Leicester.
"Beattie's injury dictates he won't play in the remaining league fixtures.
"He is back here rehabilitating and having his injury looked after,'' said Albion manager Tony Mowbray.
Preston will continue to pay his wages until the end of the 28-day period even though he was only able to play 37 minutes for Alan Irvine's side.
The Scot tore his hamstring in the first half of the win at Leicester City two weeks ago.
Preston have already acted to replace him by recruiting Hungarian international Tamas Priskin on loan from Watford.
