Anders happy to be getting a run at PNE

Anders Lindegaard might only be a month into his stay with Preston but he has already put together his best run of games since coming to England.

The Danish goalkeeper has played six matches on the bounce for PNE, last Saturday’s visit to Cardiff the first time he had been on the losing side.

In his four-and-a-half years at Manchester United, he made 29 appearances.

Lindegaard’s longest run of successive games there came in the 2012/13 campaign when he played five in a row.

At West Bromwich Albion, the club he moved to last summer and from where North End have borrowed him, he played only once.

The 31-year-old admits he is still shaking off a layer of rust but the signs are he is starting to get towards full sharpness.

Against Cardiff, Lindegaard produced a superb double save in the first half.

He dived to push a header from Anthony Pilkington against the post, then blocked the follow-up from Lex Immers with his leg.

In the second half, he made another diving save to push away a Pilkington volley.

North End manager Simon Grayson is pleased with what his latest on-loan goalkeeper has produced.

Said Grayson: “Anders has made some really good saves after coming to us and he has shown his experience around the dressing room too.

“It will be his saves on the pitch which he is judged on and he’s been making them.

“All three goalkeepers who we have had on loan this season have played well and it has been great to have them.”

Lindegaard joined from West Bromwich in late January for the rest of the season.

He made his debut in the goalless draw at Derby County on February 2.

The goalkeeper’s jersey was previously filled by Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone.

Pickford left at the start of January after being recalled by Sunderland, with Johnstone replacing him.

Manchester United would not extend his 28-day loan and he is currently sidelined by an ankle injury.

After the reliance on loan keepers this season, North End will look to sign someone full-time this summer.

Johnstone will certainly be on the wanted list and Lindegaard might be available.

He slipped to third-choice at Albion after Ben Foster returned from injury.

Lindegaard is open-minded about his future.

He said: “I won’t rule anything out. I want to keep playing.

“My competitor at West Bromwich, Ben Foster, has done well since he came back from injury and Boaz Myhill did well when he was playing.

“My family is very happy living where they live.

“It is possible for me to drive from home to work here at Preston

“As I said when I signed, the most important thing is to find happiness in football and so far I have found it here. I want to hold on to that.”
