The Lilywhites won 1-0 in the East Midlands, a close-range finish from Louis Moult in the 56th minute settling the clash and delivering a second Championship away victory of the season for Neil's men.

Neil said: "I'm naturally delighted with the win.

"To come here and limit Nottingham Forest - who I think are a really good side with a lot of good players - as much as we did and as well as we did and still have that threat on the counter attack, was a terrific effort from the players.

Preston centre-half Paul Huntington challenges Matty Cash in the air

"We know that if we went toe-to-toe with them it would be a tough game.

"So we had plans in place in terms of making sure we narrowed off, stopped them playing in the pockets of space they like to and forced them wide.

"We didn't think they had much presence in the box until they brought Daryl Murphy on.

"What we did was allow them to cross it, defended the box well and then hit them in the spaces which their full-backs leave on the flanks.

"I thought our game plan worked really well.

"But it is one thing having a game plan, there is another thing the players carrying out and I thought they carried it out to a T.

"I'm delighted with how they went about their work."
