On-fire Adlington roar on to their sixth successive victory

Adlington maintained their impressive start in the newly expanded Bolton Cricket League by bagging their sixth successive win (in all competitions) with a five wicket win over Golborne.

Golborne’s openers Hillidge, dropped in the first over, and Pantak started well putting together 52 for the first wicket. Captain Jon Howells turned to the spin of professional Majid Majeed after nine overs and was rewarded with two wickets in two balls.

Further success was achieved as Hillidge was clean bowled for 30 and Ben King removed the opposition professional, Nizam cheaply, caught behind by Stewart Plowes.

The introduction of Iain Critchley put more pressure on the home side’s batsman who capitulated from 77-2 to 129 all out.

Majeed took 6-37 off his 18 overs and Critchley finished with 3-23. What looked like a fairly easy target almost turned into a nightmare as Simon Trim, Mark Halliwell and Suleman Mohammad all departed in the first four overs for only 10 runs. Majeed (57) and Critchley (35) took control with a stand of 94. Both were out with the target in sight, leaving Steve Rawlinson (18 not out) to hit the winning runs in the thirty-second over.

The 2nd XI won their fourth game of the season. Posting a massive 265-8, the opposition were bowled out for 91. Tom Shovelton (70), Elliott Lee (40) and captain Darryl Hitchen (60) were the main contributors to Adlington’s total.
