England call for Eccleston

A talented Leyland rounders player is jetting off across the world after being chosen to represent her country on an overseas trip to Dubai.

Seventeen-year-old Jade Eccleston has been selected to play for England Under-19s, after impressing in trials she attended whilst at high school.

The Runshaw college student was selected to take part in the trials by one of her teachers and earned her place on the tour which will take place later this month.

“My PE teacher at Balshaw High school sent me and when I was selected –– it felt amazing” said Jade.

“It was something I had been working over five years for.

“We’re going to be playing for four days at Wellington International school whilst we are there.

“I can’t wait. I’m just really looking forward to the chance to play in a different country and the experience of playing against players from another country.”

Sporting ace Jade, who plays midfield, started playing rounders when she was 11 years old.

She also played for LSA Netball club, before moving to college and joining Runshaw’s netball academy.

The teenager is now hoping that being picked to travel to Dubai could lead to further representation at international level:

She added: “After this I could get moved up in to the seniors to play against older people, which could progress on to doing more tours.”
