The Irishman will miss the rest of the season but in positive news, could be back in time for pre-season training.

The outlook is worse for captain Tom Clarke however after he limped out of the Good Friday defeat to Huddersfield, a ruptured Achilles likely to put him on the sidelines for between eight and 10 months.

“When Greg stays down you know there’s something wrong,” said PNE boss Simon Grayson.

“He’s fractured his tibia which sounds worse than it is.

“It’s going to rule him out for the rest of the season but ultimately I’m told by the medical department he’ll be back for pre-season.

“It’s terrible for Greg but he’ll get looked after.”

The initial prognosis on Clarke wasn’t good with the Lilywhites discovering over the weekend that their skipper will not be available until well into next season.

“We anticipated he’d done something serious on Friday and we sent him off for a scan and we got the news that we were expecting but didn’t want to hear,” said Grayson.
