Vernon Carus’ third team are the Crabtree Cup winners after beating Longridge in the final on Sunday.
The showpiece match was staged at Freckleton’s Bush Lane ground and it was Vernons who emerged victorious.
They chased down Longridge’s first-innings score of 116 with three overs to spare and with five wickets in hand.
The inclement weather over the weekend meant the wicket was damp when the game began and whoever won the toss would have a significant advantage.
It was Vernons skipper Alan Maguire who won it and he had no hesitation in asking Longridge to bat first.
With the pitch offering plenty of assistance to the bowlers, the Longridge batsmen found scoring difficult throughout the innings with only two exceptions.
The first was opener Matt Simpson who played an easy -on-the-eye knock to hold the early part of the innings together until he was caught out trying to up the rate.
The stand-out batsmen, however, was Mike Wood who, fresh from his 50 in the semi-final, carried on in much the same vein, combining watchful defence with some mighty hitting to score a valuable 43 not out.
Longridge eventually finished on 116 off 36 overs. When Vernons batted in reply Longridge struggled to build pressure as a combination of good batting from Vernons and some wayward bowling, saw Vernons home comfortably in the end.
Vernons’ opening batsman Dan Whittle was presented with the man-of-the-match award.
