T20 agony for Garstang while F&B beat Longridge

Garstang’s hopes of reaching the final of the T20 competition were dashed in agonising fashion by Netherfield at The Riverside.

Mark Walling’s men finished the last-four match tied with their opponents, but it is the Cumbrians who progress by virtue of losing one fewer wicket.

Ben Barrow top scored for victors with 55 as they posted a competitive 151-7. Michael Walling (3-18) was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Dan Curwen made 36 as the home side needed four runs off the final two balls to win.

Unfortunately, they only managed to get three. Oli Wileman and Matt Jackson took two wickets each.

Fulwood and Broughton will meet Netherfield in the final after an excellent win over Longridge at Chipping Road.

The visitors batted first and raced to 78-1 off the first 10 overs. The home side managed to rein in the run rate over the second half of the innings, taking five wickets as F&B closed on 154-6.

Longridge fell short by 16 runs as they were dismissed for 138.

Meanwhile, Lancaster made it three wins on the spin to move through to the semi-final stage of the Silver competition of the amalgamated Northern League/Palace Shield 40-overs season.

They have topped Silver Group A with a 100% record, defeating Great Eccleston in a run feast at Hall Lane.

It was the home side who were asked to bat first having lost the toss and they certainly made the most of the conditions.

Opener Will Thistleth-waite top scored with 72 as they closed on 217-7. Simm took 4-52.

In reply, Joe Davies (3-63) and Jim Procter (2-42) were among the wickets as the hosts made inroads into the visitors’ card, but Steven Fisher held firm with a superb 83 as Lancaster edged to victory in the final over.

Elsewhere in the group, Eccleston enjoyed a terrific victory over Fleetwood at Broadwater.

Jordan Bentham top scored for the visitors with 18 as they were all out for 104.

However, their attack bowled them back into the game, dismissing the hosts for 97. Mark Jeffers took 3-30.

In Silver B, Longridge have finished top despite their game at Shap Road against Kendal being abandoned. 
The home side had totalled 156-7 off 36 overs thanks largely to Ben Phillips’ unbeaten 61. Jonathan Millward had taken 3-28 and Ian Simpson 2-31.

In reply, the visitors were 12-1 when the match was called off.

In the other match, Euxton were beaten by Lytham at Church Road.

The visitors were dismissed for 101 with Thomas Hessey taking three wickets. He then scored 33 with the bat as the home side won with four wickets in hand. Rizwan Patel took 3-17.
