Peter Siddle’s shock recall to the Australia squad for this summer’s Ashes series in England has thrown Lancashire’s plans for the season into disarray.
The fast bowler was originally set to play for the majority of the County Championship campaign after signing for the Red Rose men last month.
Siddle caught the eye of selectors after an impressive end to the domestic season Down Under, which saw him record career-best first-class figures and help Victoria to the Sheffield Shield title.
Lancashire’s cricket director and head coach Ashley Giles said: “Although it’s pretty frustrating for us, we are over the moon for Peter.
“When you sign a bowler of his calibre there is always a possibility this will happen. We are hoping we can still start the season with him for four games but then we’ll have to look for a replacement.”
