Final-day win means survival for Fulwood and Broughton

Fulwood and Broughton can plan for a second season in the Northern League after a win over Fleetwood ensured their survival on the last day.

Mark Smith’s outfit won by eight wickets at Broadwater, a result which condemned Morecambe to the drop.

Morecambe won against Chorley but that was in vain, with them finishing just two points shy of F&B.

After winning the toss, F&B chose to bowl first and dismissed hosts Fleetwood for 91 in 27 overs.

Simon Kerrigan put in an impressive spin display, the pro taking 5-14 in nine overs.

F&B chased their target impressively, posting 94-2 in 17 overs to clinch the win.

Skipper Smith led the way, hitting an unbeaten 50 at the top of the order.

Charlie Rossiter joined him to add 25, the pair seeing the visitors home and hosed to complete a first season at this level in fine style.

Morecambe’s victory over Chorley at Windsor Park was ultimately a hollow one.

In a clash reduced to 29 overs per side because of the weather, Chorley were 114-6 after being asked to bat first.

Gayan Maneeshan was the hosts’ top scorer with 33.

Morecambe replied with 115-8 to clinch the win, Luke Jongwe hitting 30 and Peter Deeks an unbeaten 29.

Blackpool’s victory over Penrith saw the Stanley Park clinch the title.

Replying to the visitors’ 109 all out, the home side’s opening pair knocked off the runs in 16 overs .

Sub pro Luis Reece struck 66 and Matthew Hudson 41, Reece facing only 51 balls and hitting 12 fours.

Garstang’s debut season in the league saw them finish solidly in mid-table.

They were beaten in their final game at Riverside by Netherfield who went into the game still harbouring hopes of winning the title.

Put in to bat, Garstang were 156-5 in 25 overs – rain forcing a shortened game.

Skipper Mark Walling hit an unbeaten 54, opening pair Fayaz Ughradar and Michael Walling having scored 34 and 30 respectively.

Netherfield replied with 159-5 to pull off the win but the Cumbrians had to settle for the runners-up spot.

Rain forced St Annes’ clash with Barrow at Vernon Road to be abandoned.

A terrible campaign for Preston ended on a low note, with them unable to raise a team to play Leyland.

The win was awarded to hosts Leyland, with Preston docked 15 points.
