Preston boxer Lisa Whiteside is the women’s 51kg ABA National champion.
The 29-year-old defeated Kim Shannon in the final on Sunday at the Liverpool Arena, courtesy of a unanimous points decision.
Whiteside, of Larches and Savick ABC, was looking forward to a potential blockbustrer fight against Olympic champion Nicola Adams but she had to withdraw on the eve of the championships after some of her possessions were stolen from her brother’s home.
Both Whiteside and Adams are vying for the one available flyweight place in the British Olympic team for the Rio Olympics in 2016.
While there was joy for Whiteside, fellow Larches fighter and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald suffered a surprise semi-final defeat to Cyrus Pattinson on points.
Adam Simpson, also of Larches and Savick, fighting in the super heavyweight category, was beaten by Michael McKay at the quarter-final stage.
