Scott's fully focused on main man Morris

Staying focused on the present is the mantra of Preston boxer Scott Fitzgerald as he prepares for his 11th professional bout on Saturday.

The 27-year-old takes on Ludlow’s Craig Morris on the undercard of Amir Khan’s bout against Samuel Vargas in Birmingham.

Despite being paired with an opponent who boasts a decent pedigree, all the talk in recent weeks has centred around the possibility of a British blockbuster bout between Fitzgerald and fellow rising light middleweight ace Anthony Fowler at some point in the near future.

However, Fitzgerald cannot afford to look past his opponent this weekend – that is according to his trainer Michael Jennings.

“Everything can change after just one fight in boxing so Scott has to be fully focused on Saturday,” said Jennings, a former British
welterweight champion.

“There has been a lot of talk about a certain other boxer, but we are not looking past anyone. We are not interested in
Anthony Fowler.

“Scott needs to win on Saturday and be on the ball. He needs to get the job done on Saturday and then we will see what happens after that.”

Morris has picked up 10 wins and one loss from 12 fights and being a southpaw be a tricky opponent for the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner, who took part in an open training session on Tuesday afternoon.

“I know for a fact that
Morris is up for this fight,” said Jennings. “He’s a southpaw which makes things slightly trickier.

“Scott is looking to make a statement whether that is a brilliant performance over 10 rounds or a first round knockout.”

Fitzgerald will appear as the first televised fight at 7pm on the night.
