In an enthralling 10-round encounter, Fitzgerald had to take as good as he got for the majority of the contest and may well have been one round down heading into the last in Birmingham when he managed to catch Morris and force the referee to step in.

The 26 year-old super-welterweight could now face Anthony Fowler in a domestic barnstormer with both men holding perfect records.

Fitzgerald now has now won all 11 of his fights.
