Crowd-pleasing Jeffers makes his mark with pro debut win
Jennings' Gym's new boxing prodigy Mark Jeffers has won his first professional bout.
The 18-year-old middleweight boxer and two time ABA National Champion beat Scott Hillman 40-36 in four rounds at Robin Park, Wigan on May 28.
The Northern Ireland born boxer who lives in Chorley is trained by ex-British, English, and WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings and his brother Dave at Jennings Gym in Coppull.
After the fight Jeffers said: “I loved it.
“It was brilliant.
“It was a good learning experience.
“I’ve had massive support and I’d like to thank my sponsors.”
Michael added: “What you have got to remember is that Mark has just turned 18.
“He has still got a long way to go.
“But as far as debut’s go he has done what we asked of him.
“He boxed really well, we have got a lot of things to work on when we get back in the gym but as far as debuts go he did well.
“He’s a crowd pleaser we just have to make sure he controls that aggression in the right direction.”
And Dave says their is more to come from the talented youngster.
He said: “He won on points and he had big support from the local area. He boxed absolutely brilliantly considering he is only 18.
“He was ferocious, it was non-stop action and he really is a crowd pleaser. He deserved the win and he has a good future ahead of him.”
And Dave says their is a wealth of talent coming through the gym.He said: “There are a lot of promising young boxers at the gym right now.”
