Preston boxing star Scott Fitzgerald is set to be part of another huge night of boxing later this month.
The 24-year-old light-middleweight is primed to appear on cruiserweight Tony Bellew’s blockbuster WBC world title fight against Ilunga Makabu at Everton FC’s Goodison Park on Saturday, May 29.
It will be Fitzgerald’s third outing in the professional ranks after winning his first two bouts by stoppage.
In February the reigning Commonwealth Games gold medal winner took care of Ben Heap at the Manchester Arena and was fine form once more a couple of months later when he defeated Robert Studzinski in Liverpool.
The former Larches and Savick Amateur Boxing Club ace – who now works under Preston trainer Karl Ince – is yet to find out who his opponent will be.
But the fact that he is set to feature on the undercard of another big night of boxing illustrates just how highly he is rated by promoter Eddie Hearn.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald’s former stablemate Lisa Whiteside geared up for this month’s World Champiosnhips in Kazakhstan by becoming a five-time national champion at the weekend.
The 30-year-old JR Gym star secured her second ABA elite level flyweight title with a unanimous victory over Chesterfield’s Jade Ashmore .
Those titles add to the three she has won at bantamweight and featherweight.
