There was a home victory at the Preston Badminton Doubles Championships.
Abbas Ali Sharif and Ashlin Augustine were the winners courtesy of a convincing 21-12 21-17 victory over Rashid Riaz and Tom Reid in the final.
Earlier Ali Sharif knocked his own brother Azam out of the competition at the semi-final.
Ali Sharif’s dad, Kabir who along with son organised the tournament, said “It was a great best of three final.
“Rashid and Tom had no answer to Abbas’s amazing smashes and Ashlin’s terrific drop shots.
“Player of the tournament was Robert Langford, who is only 18 but he played amazing.”
More than 50 players took part with many travelling from different areas of the country.
The trophies and medals were sponsored by Kashmir Watan food store, while Ashiana restaurant donated vouchers to the winners and runners-up.
R K Sweets also provided a free lunch to the players, guests and spectators
Special guests on the day were Yunus Suleman, who is a Badminton England publicity secretary and former Mid Lancs men’s doubles champion Laurie Bly.
